S01E17: Christmas Adam

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

Col and Aubrey discuss white elephant parties, Christmas goodies, and other traditions in the last Christmas-themed episode of 2019.

It would not be a true holiday seasonwithout white elephant. I Love White offin parties, they are the best and welike to throw a good white elephant party every year for the past. I don'tknow ten plus years we've thrown a white elephant party in the early years. We just threw general parties, but then, as time went on, we started to havethemes for our wa Olo parties. Hey had some good on. They were costume, theywere dress up yeah. So on the invitation, we'd tell everyone hey, youdon't have to dress t up, but it is strongly encouraged. So, let's gothrough some of the themes that we've had for a few of our white elepentparties. Oh, we had um the first one as just ugly sweater, which is liketypical Ya. Everyone does ugly sweater and it's still fun. Yes, speaking ofugly swone, I remember you wore a mock turtleneck like a white turtleneck witha sweater under it. was that a macket Torte lect or was it a real turdont? Idon't remember. I think it was my mom's turtle neck. I might still have itdownstairs. The sleeves it was a long sleeve, but it was like a three quarter, lengths on Yu riht, um speaking of L, ugly sweaters. Have you noticed howretailers have taken advantage of this ugly sweater, yeah, Walmarts, full ofHem right now and they're adto? I creating these really hideous uglysweaters Theyr, making away that tha. You know going to the thrift store andfinding one that was legit ugly, holazy well hardline. I made one yeah yeah, but I still think it's great. I loved it there. In all other stores, I saw amen, that's been going around online. It said it said. The perfect uglycrmiss sweater does not exist in then do dot dot and it kind of cut off thesentence, and it was a picture of an ugly Christmas sweater with MikeTyson's face ind his tattoo on his face saying Mary Christhmin, I kind of want it. You need to get thatone thats goodyoogly switter yeah. Then we did hink the next one was Canadaright. I think so. Boxing Day 'cause we were going to beon o Temper Da. That's right! We did it candidae thing because it was going tobe the day after Christmas 'cause we were out of town or too many peoplewere out of town and people dressed up as Canada. We had some skiers, WeserveePutin serve Butin. I think I dressed as a lumberjack. We had some mounties thatwas grshowed up, which was pretty amazing Um, and then we did um. The GreatDepression was the next year a great dipression. We did soupkitche. So thiswas the anti roaring twenties right hat. We were all wearing like overalls andbarefoot. It was awesome. I think I wore overalls with no shirt. Yes,that's right and yeah bread and soup is what we serve for that one sooone andthen the next one, I think, is when we did eighties promp. We might be gettinghim out of ARD, Ri, Seventies. F, Oh yeah, that's right, Venevenis, so rseventies, a echane yeah we played game shows. I think we played prices rightand we'll get into why we played game, shows a little ile and then eighties.PROES PRAS BAIT was huge. Everyone we...

...had the big balloon arch and everyone'sdressed in Texas. liarchers are easier to make than I expected. I Ju t GoogleLittle Diy, it's not that hard to meet and they hov Bot at all on arts for apicture background. Then we kind of went tok sequential, so we in seventies, eighties, the nineties hip, hop and h. We had a big house party, Wili J, afriend djde. I walked outside at one point in time to h, check something andI had to walk around to the outside back m back of my house, and I couldhear the roof tiles. The ruzegos like shaking Je, was playing DJ. James was playingthe music so loud. It was amazing, th t that was a really really fun one yo hadmade. We got this fo brick wall that wewere heights spray painted griffidionyeah. We still have that in our grudge. Oh Nice. We should break it out.Sometime forgot that was in there wherewhwait not noticed t at it's noton the wall. It's hiding behind this white. That's why Iver See reaizhe Tilhave that fun. So after ninety's hip hop, we went biker party yea. This wasan outdoor party, so it was in our garage brought out some couches intothe garage. Some pin a pink Pung Table, Cornhole Fire Thin whowas fun to have T.I remember how I accidentally invited those bikers from a real buck by L,Wason Halloween. We were ticker treating and there was a motorcycle. Wewe KINDOF, wanted to have like a couple real bikes, like Harley Davidsons, forjust kind of props in the driway, and so I aske us because we're not realbikers right. We don't actually have those, and so I I saw one it was like.Oh, is this your bike? Do you live close and o told thim about this party, and I was like w you know. Would you mind if there here in the draway andthey were like oh sweet, we're in we'll be there and they're like bunch of guysfrom the chapter would come and I'm Likeyeahi'm like Oh back down back downaport mission, so we were kind of paranoid all night long that there werether random, biter duds showing onto the they. We just had to use yourvespascooters hopethee're mo pets, yeah 'cause, we don't avebite o. It workedan Wa that last year. Ah, that was last year. Was it yeah yeah this year inthis year the intention was to have our Christmas party. You know in a coupleof days, yeah it was going to be a NASCAR party, White Trash, tame whitetrash, the a Lori of gocart racing, but there's been a little hook up. Wepostponed it, it's being pushed back a little bit. ABRY has to to go out oftown for a little funeral. Yes, my grandma passed away, which we're goingto talk about her in a few minutes. When I talk about Christmas, Evetraditions, but she was like the best sweetest grandma. You can imagine andyeah she passed away and we knew witas coming for a while. Her her health hasdefinitely been declining and she was ninety eight. She lives EGS, full life, she's, just the most wonderful and yea. She passed away this week, so we'llpostpane that and tigure it out later. While it's going to be postponed intothe new year, I'm fine with that, because we ended up having a reallygood neighborhood white elephant party at our house s last night. It was sobad. I think we had what ten or twelve fourteen I don't. Even No. We had a lotof people over...

...and in eens to find over. So that's thething is we a lot of people when they do the kind of bad Santa? Like you picka gift, and then someone can steal yours, and I never liked just having mygift suff, it's something I like. I don't want to just have it stolen, sowhat we dad actually, because it's so rare that a really good gift is broughtto a white elephant party right. We don't believe in bringing junk to eweltting. We want to thin, be Soma ant. You will want ye steel right, that'sour objective yeah, and so, if you get something that you want, it's kind of abummer to have someone to steal it and give you whatever they got. That wasprobably not something you want right. So we started doing games, midwear, winte games, competition, e's done all kinds of different ones for the UMseventies game show it was all like Drnshm Ganowas right and then we didnamed that tune for the ninetys hip Popari, the it was eighties Trivia. Ithink for that Ya. 'Sbeen. Last year we did box of eect last night we all satedbox of lies from Jimy Fallon. We've got a bunch of Rinsto ere in my office, andwe have friends, pring they've done that a few times always that Wso way itworks as you. If, if you have a gift, you can defend it, someone challengesfor your gift, and if they beat you at the game, then they get your gift andyou pick a new one or if you beat them, you get to keep your gift. So it's funbecause you're like okay, I lost far and square. You can have my gift, youdon't feel so bad about it or you can defend it and keep it. I definitelyprefer that it makes it fun. It makes it entertaining, and you know there aresome good gifts that we've brought over the years. ABRE had this theme for along time she was constantly crojydaing driving crochet food scarp food carvs, the first one I ever did was eggs and Bacon, N tear scarved Yep a it'd, be like abig egg and then like a strip of Bacon between each egg, and then he dodoughnuts. I did some Doni on arms, Pepperoni, N, O a pepper Anipizza thatstarted kind of witedish and got real narrow, as Hiy got longer ice creamscarf, which resurface last night made a couple of Ice Lim scarves, Theanotherhere's another one gat. It was, though yeah yeah, that was fun. Ienjoyed making the the food scarves. I haven't done that in a little whileyeah and we've done some other good white elephant gifts in the past lastyear for our family white elephant part. In fact, we've got a lot of whiteelement: parties, a family, one ter soan yeah. They are m. We did a giantBull Pinyata full of candy. That was highly sought after by all the children, yeah and then the cousin who won it. Let everybody share it: Yeah they alltook, turns hitting it and got all the candy after he ac hit it open, and thatwas a lot of fun yeah. We did um some other friend ones. Oh, I rememberthe one will got that he loved. So much was a yodeling pickle yodall. We still have e H, Oh yeah. Hestill plays with thatevery year prior to Christmas, I'll reanie. When thekids are at school, we clean out all of the toys and we get rid of all of theold junkie, broken toys, thereen multiple pieces of the thoice that theydon't play with anymore, in preparation...

...for all the new toys that are going tocome in for Christmas, and we did that last week I saw the Udo Er yeah. Iremember also. We gave Um a case of kindereggs that was good, yeah, kids, love, kinderigs down, ther es a good one, H, so yeah, that's always a fun party andeverybody always brings lots of good food. That's always fun that there'sgood food! There there's some Um Christmas tcame foods that are reallygross like fruit cake. Do people actually eat fruitcake? I is there a difference between fruit, cake and pine up the upside down K, yeah they're different I've never hadeither shing. I don't believe it's like a loaf. I kind os like a loaf of bread, but it's some kind of cake, but then it has these jellied fruit chunks in it.That's like the traditional fruit cake. I think it's kind of going the way ofthe 'cause, not good and N gingerbread. I don't like anything, gingerbreadflavored, Ginger Gindercookies, you don't like Ginger snap. No, I reallylove Ginger snaps yeah, I'm curious. If other people do, Idon't know and Egnog sor like Igni at like his me. I know that it kills meand Egnog. It's not really healthy for you. I don't think so. I've been buyingthe soy egnog made from like soy, milk S, taste like bubblegam. You t they're really so they're reallygood s out there that tastes like ignog and there are other ones that arealmost a little bit too sweet en that I's like Bumbliegam and that's yeah. I can't stand it. I've tasted it.I have a good friend, oh, she was actually on the Interviewe and shetalked about this Egnog chugging party. They do for their party serious, a ideayeah and everyone like chugs, the think, first, one to finish their huge RedSolo Cup of EGNAGRE. I thought it was a whole Galla. I ello Maro, I noe OsocaoB. T that's a good idea. It is a great idea. I couldn't do it though Wano Beizoo an I couldn't drink the EGKNOCK, maybe for Oneeeur White Elephantparties in the future. We could do a food eating challenge. Well, we did you, remember the donuts. This was funny. No, I Haso for a minute to win it. One ofthe Games was the first person T it was on the Canada one 'cause we had mapledonuts her Erit, some maple bar and one of our friends was like Oh reallydidn't, want to eat it and then the other lihe able dout he like folded itin half and just ch like tr like a hot dog eating contest, ate it so fast. Itwas los serious, that's funny yeah. He ended up winning there. I think theywere hallenging for the DONUT SCARF E wouldavng trial in Garut. I remember other treats I mean pretty much.Everything else is delicious, like all of the you know, fagant peanut, Brittleand all the good tree fort that you remember as a kid. I normal ill alwaysmake fudgeand peanut Britdle Augsma and did the Fudge always turn out? Oh yeah,it's always amazing. I feel like no offence to my mother and she's, a greatcook, she's really good at recipes. But when she made fudge it was like everyother year the fudge turned out th her peanut butter balls are so good. Shemakes us every Christmas right M. I think courtny has taken out of a torchot of the peanut butterballs. It's like a chocolate covered, Panu yeah nd anit's interesting because when my mom...

...made them in the past, she was like. Ohthese, take three days to make because they have to stay in the refrigeratoreand cool and all the stuff. I think that was all a lie. I think didn't Ijust didn't want US eating 'em, so, oh yeah, they take for t they're, notready yet they're, not ready. I don't know we'll have to ask her COURTONIS,like I can make these in an hour they're down to you. Anyone good to gogood o go funny, other food that I remember Christmas streets as a kid Um, my grandma. It was like a sugar cookieand it had a half Merichino Mers Yeah Marrsin Arcino Cherry a in the top.Have you ever seen: Theenan, Chocolate, Cherries, those yeah, yeah, yeah, halfhalf Marachino Cherry with some powdered sugar on top totally. REMEMBERUS! Remember those from y past I A had one in year my mom made these reallyyummy peanut butter cookies that she would then put a whole Hershey kiss onthem when they were warm and it Woul, Oh yeah, so good. We don't make a tonof Christmas goodies to bring toornasecause. That's I think, that'swhy my parents made them on growing up to deliver, presents and gifts toneighbors and people that we knew. We don't do that it's on in a couple ofyears, like I got really on t on the ball and made treats and hand it out toneighbors, but for the most part like Christmas will come ago, a d I'm like rpeople aren't delivering treats to us, and then we regift Goto get on that O.Oh, we totally do terrible, never regifted a tree. A that totally av mebring us a Christmas goody. There is a sixty percent chance that we will takesaid Christmas, goody, repackage it and deliverat system. Coll. Does that Idon't know about it. I have nothing to do with that. I've, never redicted agift in my life really oely wit. Ever giftingall of the blame, so I wasmentionging my grandma and we had the best Christmas Eve at her home. Mygrandmaan GRANDPA's Um in Idaho and everyone would come all the aunts andnuccles and the cousins, which was a lot of people. They had seven kids andUm. She they would always do like a gift exchange, but you know t theywould always eat and ever tell you about this yeah oyster soup. Yes- andit was this Milky Sup that just had these lte live an no he's like big Chunky g you'd, besurprised that he temperature water, that oysters could live in it was Roomton were relying for all ofus, kids nd. We were so. She would make this like fish soup for the kids, whichwas always so terrible t, doesn't sound like a good replacement to Oyster Su.He had oh honey, you don't like the oyster sup have some fish soup? Well, what kind of fish is it whitefish all the EMEBER, the adoles like the DadTheothey? They all love the oyster soup and they'd be eating out nd like watchthem, eat these oysters and then fish them out, and there were these bigglobby green things, and I remember it was the first time that I was up atyour your parents' place for Christmas with you and we went to that party andI feel like it was almost a right of passage for didyouyour brothers. Now,your brothers, they were like Oh yeah, we love oyster soup and they' like eatit because, like oh I'm, an adult, I'm...

...a man, you know theyre alln at a bandybut swallow, and maybe you won't feel thesand girting in your teeth, but that was the best party. It was sofun all of the FUN Games they would play and just to see everybody you knowand to have everybody hether. It was really fun. But it's tricky ChristmasEve. Traditions are really tricky. I know for us and for people if, if youhave both families close by you're, like maybe taking turn splitting timelike that, can be difficult. You want to see everybody as much as possible anow that my family's in Idaho for Christmas and we're usually down herewe're able to spend more time with your family. Let me see my family. In thesummer we made a decision long ago that our kids, we we always wanted them totry to wake up in their own beds. On Christmas morning, yeah like whereverwe were, we weren't going to go every other year, one year in idahowaa yearin Arizona B'cause, that's just too hectic. Wherever we wear, that's justwhere we are and whether it's likee bed or lately we have been liking, the ideaof maybe a destination Christmas we've been sampling the waters for a coupleof years. We did a cruise just after Christmas a couple of years ago, andthat was fun. It was a blast, so we went light on the Christmas a littlebit heavier on the cruise last year. We did Christmas up at my parents cabinand it was you know, away from home something new different, unique and itwas so much fun we're going to do it again this year, so we're going up withmy brother and his family and they went with this last year and that feel wasThag. 'cause they've been to the cabin so many times that you know it's almostlike waking up in youroom. I would love to get to the point, though, where we go to Hawaii or mathing the Bahamas, orngChrismozealan, I did. Someone was telling me that they travel onChristmas Day because they're it's less crowded on Christmas Day, but I think afew days before Christmas- Oh I'm sure Rosa so busy yeah, but we also haveanother Christmas Eve, tradition, Whi, H ist, where we go out to Mexican foodon Christmas Eve, and we did this as kids. We didn't go out, though we wouldalways se H, make Mexican food or we would order tomales from whoever makestomales, which is not us, but you order tomales make Mexican food, and that wasthe big deal abber and I really hate having to clean up on Christmas evenand rap all the presents exactly so really nice. What you say well well, well we're burning well this, and that brings all Thoseo no book sance. Itdoesn't bring all the Preasury, the ones that we are giving her a and got arap yeah. It's true. We don't tar o have to cook and Clain we've startedgoing out for Mexican food, though I was on facebook the other day, and Ihad a friend who asked for ideas on Christmas, Eve recipes. What to Cook, and one of my other friends posted and said something about like this seafood boil, and I was like oh my gosh, that sounds en brother in law. Do, though, sometimes eeon re camping, the probise. It takes like eight hours to do yeahand I still got Ta wrap presents on...

Christmas S. I would rather go out. I,like our tradition, go out to eat Mexican food on Christmase es Ye loveit. It's Super Fun I'll. Stick with that yeah for sure I have a game. You're ready. Do you yeah? Of course I do. How can I? Why am I surprised? Isthere anything else we need to talk about in this episode? Are We got? Iwent through my list. You got anything else Um. I think this is being Prit'sjust a couple of days before Christmas right, Thatwe, the Monday beforeChristmas. This is our Christmas Eve episode a Christmas e, my Christmaseverybody. I didn't really Christmas Eve was on a Monday, that's exciting! No! The twenty third is Christma, so this is okayty Christmas. Everybody isn't that Christmas out ofthat twenty third Atam Yeah Yeah, all right so I was Adam, came before eve, debatable, okay, so here's we're going to do forAur game right, we're going to each name. Every Christmas treat we canthink of taking turns wow. You can't pause, you can't hesitate right, youcan't repeat anything and you can't name a variation like if I say fudge, you can't then say peanut butter. Why tro Wno Kay I just Gou all right so andthen, if there's any pause or hesitation boom you're out. So if youonly get one or two done or we might go for a while, let's see I'm very curious, okay, all right! You want to start or me. I will startwith SUGAR COOKIES PEANUT BRITTLE FUDGE: peppermit barkgingerbread cookies chocolate covered prentzels, what you breakh, the Rasugar cookies gingerbread, cookie S, totally different n N. No, no did yousay that in the bes and Bu, you can't say a different Flao ae like totallyther every kind, all budges of the sand, all fudges pretty much Su Eing therules, one cookie cookies. That's it Christmas cookies hold on to ' not real about this. Let's thinkabout this because you've got sugar cookies, which are traditional sugarcookies with sugar, sprinkled on top gingerbread cookies are shaped likelittle gingerbread men and they look and taste completely dargeing you'rearguing that they're different enough. That they should tey ars like fudge. Ihear Yo think about like all the different kinds of cookies you we coulbe here all day naming I will name every flavor of Milano cookies that Ilike to eat. At Christmastime, okay, go minc, brassel sugar, Milono, cookies, non mint, chocolate, Milano, the straw type rolled rolled Coroette, they're calledPiroett yeah. I have no idea all right wee like start over and we're sayingcookies are done with, but I'm not out. No you're, not outto. You didn't youdidn't understand the rule. I don't understand all these complexrules, okay, but we can't repeat...

...anyyone. So we've already said: Okay-and you said GINDERRECD cookies- I hard to allow that. Yes, you do now. You gookay, Cherry chocolates, hello, Dolly Balar, bars, mm orange. Stick lemon bars, don't even try to tell me t t those arethe same thing because they both include bar I'll, allow it M donutsbrownies budge. She hadn't said it was in theinstructions. G Ahad in the GOG WASSL Losso, oyster soup has to we treat hey,we said, treats oyster. Is the IM Tellin yourtist from the call those menup in Idaho may feel different? That is definitely clarifying the rules. It hasto be like a sweet, sugary train that would beed not allowed by the Diet, competition I'm doing that doesn't allow. I could totally eat oyser soup.Do you want me to go he and replace oyster soup with a sweet sugar treat? Iwill replace Oyster Soup with Candycanes O. I can't think of anymore io had one and then you said oystersoup and everything flew out of my brain. That was my S. I was so defiantabout that not being a tree on my strategy. Andy's mince hot chocolateand marshmallows keep going see how man you can do. No you're done, I'm geting. We got a lot of them. Swant O now. I just want some hot chocolate with theANDYS bints and Marthan sound Ame, the better than a good hot cocoa bar withlots of different options of things to put in it yeah. All I want, though, ismiant Aven marshmallows. I can. I forget the marshmallows and candy canethat just gets sweet. I want a mint hot chocolate, otherwise you put all thesstuff in it. It's just too sweet. It's just too sugary. You, like your hotcook, on a taste like toothpaste, La Mint, flavord, Toi, know and thekids will eat something men I'll get something. Oh these are so good s liear. You got to try just like toothspace yeah, alway you're, not a fan N Oyou're, not a fan of anything flavored mint you're, also, not a fan of gingersnaps. You know what you co, be flavored mint when you're at thedentist- and they say. Would you like this to be bubble, gum or mint flavor,O whatever, and I find it hard to believe that an anyone chooses anythingbesides mint, oh well, youleg cinnamon, Vanilla, fogomer, robberry Vbubblegan, but I I pause and I look at them and I adjust my glasses a little bit. I say:Do I look like I want bubble gum on my teeth. Come on how many adut Gol Mintwe'll have to ask our friend. That's a dental hygenist. How how many peoplepick something besides e Mi I'd be curious. Maybe they picked cinnamon.Maybe, like big Red Gum, tastes yeah, maybe would you like cinnamon mint or juicyfruit, MT, big red or Joicy PR ar your o? No,what was the? What was the BUBBLEGAM growing up? Maybe it was in Bubblegan, but it was like the fruit strahting stripe thin, I goin to say a big leaguechew. Would you lie I om juicy fruit,...

Fruit, stripes or Doublemans? I wouldprobably choose fruit stripe. I was really ummy in the beginning and thengross that was like juicy for Jui eper. It was gratfor Lik fifteen seconds. Ifthat and then it's like this is just a hard yea. Well Merry Christmas, Adameveryone. We hope you have a wonderful Christan have a good one. I think isthis. The last episode that we're doing on Christmas topics- yes, it is nextweek- will be New Year's Eve an next year ill back. Some new Christmastopics to discuss h all rightit rery Christmas.
