S02E08: Online School

ABOUT THIS EPISODE

We chat about the pros and cons of online school with our very special guest, our youngest daughter Georgia. She shares the changes she's noticed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and gives us the nitty gritty about navigating the roller coaster of hybrid, in-person and online school.

Hello, everyone, welcome to the podcast. We have a very special guest with us today. Very special guests, your Jack Carter, our youngest daughter. Would you like to introduce yourself? Georgia, hey and tell us your name is Georgia and how old are you? I'm six years old. What great are you in at school? First Grade? First Grade. I thought you were in fourth grade. First today we are talking about online school with coronavirus. A lot of schools have had to go online and how hard it is. Yes, we're going to ask Georgia for her take on what is difficult about it how she is managing. But first, Georgia, can you tell us what is coronavirus? Coronavirus is when you're very sick and you can't go to school. That's right. Right, everything cannot go to school.

Yeah, if any of us have coronavirus, then none of us can go to school. Right. It's an illness kind of like the flu. So that's right. And we're about to start doing hybrid education again, where Georgia will go to school two days a week. She has been going full time on in person, which has been nice, right, jeg, to be able to go to school every day so we'll go into a brief history of school and Coronavir virus is from from Georgie's perspective. But before we talk about that, Geege is what we call Georgia, Gigi or GIEG. How has coronavirus made a difference in your life, other than school? What has changed? Oh, because before you didn't have to wear masks, but now you had to wear masks and pretty much everywhere you go. Huh? Also wearing masks to what? Wait, say that again, ELFS wear masks, to the elps, like the elph on the shelf. Yeahs to worry has a...

...mask on to right. In fact, you should tell us that story. Tell us what happened, because the ALF on the shelf, Juliet, that's her name. She comes to our house every year, right, and this year was a little bit different. Yeah, you woke up, I think on the first of December. Tell us what you saw. Okay, so our elphas in a box and there was a sign that showed her that she was quarantining. She was quarantining and one of our class nights were quarantining to so she was in a box. He showed us a sign that said it that she was quarantining. Why did she have to quarantine? Did the signs say why? I don't I don't know. I don't think it's said. Think it said all elves arriving from the North Pole had to quarantine for fourteen days. Right. Were you happy to see that she was quarantine? Know, were you very sad? Yes, yes, you up like a couple...

...of days later there was Um, there was a box. There is no box. There was a note, there was a Santa that was like the box in the note was like covering it with the because the Santa was like a magnet. What did the note say? The note said that Juliette the Elf, she is out of the box. She was gone. Wait, why? Why could she leave the box? She let the box because she did not have CRONA. But she still has to wear a tiny little mask. Okay. And then that day she was like in our little bird thing, like a bird cage, and put a bird on it. Yeah, even birds in it, that our elf was in there instead. Right. So we got a letter from Santa that her they had gotten the results for her covid test and she was negative. Right, and so she could come...

...out of quarantine. And today she was like by our like on our clock. So it's as far as the Elf in the shelf goes. Coronavirus had an impact on Juliet. She had to stay quarantined and even now she still has to wear a mask. How about anything else? Anything else in your life that his changed because of Covid? HMM, something that changed? Cousin of Covid? Hmm, you can think about it. You don't have to have an answer right now. What about Thanksgiving? was Thanksgiving a little bit different? Yeah, what was different this year? Like cuke, sometimes you like, Um, go to other pieces people's House and have feastless, like with all of your cousins and friends and family. And did that not happen this year? No, we just got to do it by her, with the family, because of Crowna. But was it fun? Was it fun with just our family? Yeah, yeah, it was still fun, but we missed cousins and GRANDMAS and grown no, crown was ignoring us. Darn...

...that Corona. All right, so let's talk about school a little bit change. So tell us what is your favorite thing about school this year? My favorite thing about school is I get to see everybody's eyes because because everybody's eyes of like so fun to see. either. They have masks on, but you can still see their eyes. Yeah, in, in Mrs Howell, and she's in. She's a very nice teacher this year. Yes, do love her. Yes, she's not ice. Okay, so school was online for a while and you still had Mrs Howell, but it was on the computer, right. Yeah, sometimes. Yeah, what was that like? It? Okay, so the it was different from like school and person and...

...online. So, like online, I was like so distracted. All I could do is like play toys. I have nothing to do. I was so distractive with my toys. MMM, it's difficult to not be distracted with your toys when you're homes because when I don't want but one it's not learning time, then I don't want to play with toys. So that's weird. Yeah, so is it more? So it's a little more difficult to focus and pay attention. What else is different? What else is difficult about online school? Online school? Something that's very different about online school is like that. Online schools like very hard because because you do because you can't like pay...

...attention enough, like you're focused on other things. Yeah, there's just so many distractions here at home. Right. So, do you prefer school in person with your teacher? Yes, yeah, it's a bummer it that sometimes we can't be there in person. Do you feel like you learn as much when it's online, or do you feel like you learn more in school in person? I learned more, Um, in person at school, just because it's easier to focus. Yeah, okay. So we're going to hybrid. So you'll have school two days a week at school and the rest of the time is online. Right. What are some good things about having school on the computer? Okay, so good things on the computers? I still get to see everybody's faces. It's still get to like have breaks and like, Um, do you get more snack breaks at home? Sometimes, yeah,...

...what do you mean? Sometimes? Sometimes, all right, what do we do for recess here at home? Usually we go outside some diary snack recess. We got side would cheat and often you ask for us to play a very specific game. What is that? Zavi apoclets. Okay, that's right. Can you tell us? How does that work? How do you play Zombie Apocalypse? You play Zombie apocalypse like this, like if my mom was it, she would have to go kind of slow, and if I was it, or my brother was it. We can go fast. So it's like Zombie infection tag. Right. That's something I've never understood. Why is it that whenever I'm at I have to go slow, but you can go fast because we're kind because baby zombies are faster than adult zombies? Yeah, I made because I made up the game. Yeah, that's a great rule.

So you can run really fast and get us if you're the Zombie, but if we are the Zombie, we have to go slow. And Pretending Zombie, and will always pretends like God with the like his finger and like he says, zombies can't touch me if I'm going Guss like it's from, makes up his own roles, even though. And you made up a rule that you can heal each other. Right, you can heal will and make him human again, and he can heal you. that. Can Mom and Dad heal each other? No, no, have some advantages. Hey, only the kids can heal mom and dad. No, Mom and dad can heal each other. It's very complicated. All right. So I'm excited to have you home more GG. I know online school is difficult. It's harder to focus, but it's going to be fun to have you at home more. We get a play recess together again, we get to spend more time together. It is fun. They are good things to write. Get us, your family more yeah, all right. So wrap this up. GIG If you have to choose between full time school at school, full time school...

...at at home, or a couple of days at school and a couple days at home, what you answer? So a full time at school, be full time at home. See, half and half. What would you choose? Okay, I would choose like being at school, school full time. Okay, all right, we're going to end with a little game. I am going to ask a Christmas related question. We're going to see if dad or gg can answer first. Ready, all right, what is the name of Santa's reindeer that has a red, glowing nose? Friends of Gegg, you gotta right. I said Prancer. You gotta do looking all right. Okay, here's another question. I'm ready. What is the white stuff that's...

...small falls out of the sky at Christmas? Rain? Snow? Ah, you got it right again. I was thinking rain, because falling out of this guy, but that's not white. Silly me, right, snow, I think you like cads at first, but falls down to me. You got it all right. Now I'm going to ask you a question, and it's a race between you and mom to see who can answer you ready. Who is the person who wears read and has white hair and takes care of Santa? Claus? Jesus? So close. I think you meant Mrs Claus, but is also a very good, also a very good and also accurate, Mrs Clause. Santa's Santa's and is wife. Santa's Old Lady, is Mrs Clause. We don't see her very much. Right. She makes them...

...cookies and she's a little grandma. She's his wife. Do you have any trivia questions for us for Christmas? Change you ask a question about Christmas and we'll see if mom set answers. Will see the answers. Who is the person who has read clothes and white beard? Jesus, M Mrs Claus? Neither you that right. Clause, so tricky. That's a good question. So silly. All right, all right, you want to say marry Christmas to all of our listeners. Very Christmas. Yes, all right, awesome. Thanks for being on the PODCAST, gg that was really fun. You did a great job. Say Bye bye, B bye.
